The term Digital Signage circumscribes the use of digital audio-visual contents by advertising and information systems like electronical posters in the industrial intranet, electronical traffic signs, advertising screens in businesses, digital door labelling or large-screen projectors. Besides the digital audio-visual contents can be adapted very fast, purposefully and economically.
In the truest sense however digital signage is about networked audio-visual information systems whose contents can be either programm-controlled or manually arranged. Therefore a combination of presentation technique, playout-hardware (pc-systems), network connection as well as software for playout, content management and network management is required.
Digital signage is much more than pure broadcast solutions, presentation systems or interactive kiosk systems. With digital signage any picture, text, flash and video data can be combined. Web-based information such as news or meteorological data is updated automatically.
